ALMA – Cowboy (Video Premiere)

Finnish pop-sensation ALMA has a video out for Cowboy, her first single from her upcoming debut album, that is set for a release in 2019.

Cowboy is a more R’n’B/Pop-based banger than her first releases like the successful Chasing Heights or the collaboration with DJ/producer Felix Jaehn, Bonfire. The song is written by her  between Helsinki and LA alongside heavyweights Justin Tranter (Gwen Stefani, Justin Bieber), Sarah Hudson (Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Halsey) and BloodPop (HAIM, Grimes) who also produced the track. As always with ALMA’s songs, the production is really perfect and the refrain is a banger – The raw mood of the song is a good contrast to the so overpolished music nowadays: “I’m a motherfuckin’ cowboy”.

As ALMA describes: “I’ve spent a lot of my life being told who to be, what to say or how to behave by the world. There’s constant pressure on us all to fit in and ‘Cowboy’ is about exactly the opposite. I want my fans to feel like they can be whoever, say whatever and look however when they listen to my music. Here you are accepted no matter what.”

The video is directed by acclaimed finnish director Miikka Lommi and it shows how it is to be as a post-adolescent in the 21st century.

“I wanted the video to look like a homemade movie.” says ALMA, “Everything you see is real. Finland and Finnish culture is front and centre. The cast is all my friends. We were shooting for 3 days and those days were some of the best of my career so far. I think I speak for everyone when I say It didn’t feel like we were working at all. More like shooting a fun documentary of our lives.
